About

Starr Hardridge

is an enrolled member of the Muscogee Creek Nation and was raised throughout central Oklahoma. His work uses an assemblage of pointillism and a southeastern woodland beadwork aesthetic. Schooled in traditional disciplines of classical art, his style continues to evolve with an abstracted symbolism influenced by a search for balance. His bold use of color and geometry wields a modern twist inspired by Muscogee patterns and designs.

Starr received a BFA in Illustration and Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design in 1997.  He continued studies at a one-year Residency in Penne D’Agenais France at the Nadai Verdon Atelier of Decorative Arts.

Starr’s work is currently featured in a nation-wide touring exhibition called Return From Exile. This is a group exhibition of southeastern artists and focuses on themes of resilience and resistance of the Southeastern Native American Tribes removed to the Oklahoma territories.

Full Moon Lodge Pendleton Blanket

Starr’s work was selected by the Pendelton Woolen Mills as their 2015 Legendary Blanket Artist.  These collectible pieces provide warmth and comfort while their designs continue to illustrate significant patterns, symbolism and indigenous beliefs.  This particular piece "illustrates the relationship between mankind, Mother Nature and the creator of the universe whose medicine is love. It acknowledges our place between the sun and the full moon."
